From November to March, Maine winter settles in
around the lodge, and while conditions for snowmobiling, cross country
skiing and ice fishing become ideal - conditions of access and comfort
become more challenging. If you intend to rent in this time frame it is
necessary that you contact us for current
conditions and recommendations for staying at the lodge.
To prevent the pipes from freezing and bursting, the
running water at the lodge is generally secured in this time frame,
which means that renters need to bring their own drinking water and use
the outhouse facilities. Gas lights and cook surfaces are still
functional, with heat provided by woodstove and fireplace.
Winter storms can temporarily block access to or
egress from the lodge - though the camp road is plowed, cleared of
debris and repaired as required within a reasonable amount of time.
Also, the driveway to the lodge is susceptible to snow drifts from
Northwest winds off the [frozen] lake.
During the "mud season", access to the camp road
is restricted to prevent excessive rutting. This closure occurs between
mid-April and mid-May as warranted by road conditions. Unfortunately,
this corresponds to some pretty good fishing on the lake and surrounding
streams, contact us if you wish to gain access
during
this time frame. |
